You’ve got a beach vacation coming up in a week, and you’re very excited, but there’s just one problem: your gnarly feet. When’s the last time you cut your toenails? Is that dead skin hanging from your heel? What’s that lump growing on the side of your foot? Keeping your feet in a pristine condition not only makes them appealing, but it keeps them healthy as well and should be implemented into your daily skincare routine. Here are a few ways to keep your feet glowing and ready for the beach.

Keep Up With Your Nails

What better excuse to get a pedicure? Keeping your toenails under control plays a large part in maintaining healthy-looking feet. Nothing looks worse than twisted, yellow nails curling over the ends of your toes, so it’s best to keep them short and trimmed. You can do this yourself with a pair of nail clippers and a nail file, but if you want to treat yourself, pay a professional to do it. Take a trip to the salon and have them painted your favorite color to spice them up a bit, plus they’ll give your feet the whole works while they’re at it!

Deal With Rough Skin

We’ve all fallen victim to sandpaper-like heels, but luckily there are things you can do to treat this. Applying some moisturizer to your feet can keep them from drying out or itching, especially during the particularly cold months. You might also soak them in lukewarm water to soften them up, then take a foot file to your heels to remove the hardened skin that has built up, which dead skins tend to do. This will keep any rough calluses from forming on the bottoms of your feet.

Wear Comfortable Footwear

One of the best things you can do for your feet is wearing comfortable shoes. While those heels you bought might be cute, constant usage can lead to developing bunions and heel spurs, in which case you’ll have to contact a medical professional, like Northwest Surgery Center, in order to deal with them. Wear something with cushy soles and plenty of room for your feet–don’t cram your toes into a size 6 if you’re really a size 8, nobody cares but you. This doesn’t mean your only option of footwear has to be oversized slippers, but find a good balance for yourself of both fashionable and comfortable shoes.

Treat Yourself!

Now that you’re feet are sparkly and clean, go get yourself a foot massage from the nearest parlour! They’ll be ready for the beach in no time at all. But don’t stop there, be sure to keep your feet in tip-top shape year-round. Skincare is important, and that includes the skin on your feet.
