I would like to start this article by a quotation specifying the very meaning of meditation which is- “Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in Eternal awareness or pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging finitude in infinity.” – Swami Sivananda.
Well when we look at meditation at first and if we are especially young, then it looks like a totally waste of time and efforts. Even the thought of being away from the world looks so saintly and for the priests, monks and sanyasis. It looks like we are not going to have any short term or instant benefits from it. But then as we start to grow up and think about it and read about it everywhere from authors and various people we think well that might have some merit. People go as far as saying that “if you can go only one thing in a day, do meditation”. Then we start to make up our mind towards meditation and that’s when we get to know about its benefits, some of which I will discuss here today.
INNER PEACE:
Well it’s just like cleaning up your mess. Just like every day we meet many people some good some bad, we accumulate thoughts some negative, some positive. Meditation is a process of holding on to what’s good and eliminating what’s bad. Our mind is just like our room, remember it getting up messed for weeks and the time it takes to clear it all up. Same with the mind, if you clear negative thoughts everyday well and good and if you don’t, they accumulate and then you are just nowhere. So guys to gain inner peace, you need to meditate. It brings you at ease with yourself and makes you comfortable in your own skin.
SELF AWARENESS:
All of us suffer from the same problem of not being able to figure out what exactly we want. There are hundreds of thoughts going through our mind when we are thinking about anything. Meditation makes us know about exactly what we want. It makes us calmer which makes us realize and think about what we want exactly. It makes you known to the real you. It makes you clear about what you want? why you want it? and how you have to get it.
CONSCIOUSNESS:
With meditation you become more conscious about yourself and the surroundings. You get to know the inter connections between various things and happenings in life. With being conscious, feelings like fear, agony, envy, desire, pride etc. start to vanish and empathy, courage, objectivity, willingness start emerging in your cerebrum.
CURES INSOMNIA:
Well insomnia is a condition of sleep deprivation. Now you would think how does meditation cure it? When you go to sleep you have your head full of thoughts, problems, and fears. Meditation clears these clusters as a result you get sleep as soon as you bump into the bed. Not just that, it also improves the quality of sleep. Which have immense benefits. You get up fresh and ready to go!
REDUCES STRESS AND TENSION:
Stress and tension these are the two silent killers who spoil everyone’s life. But meditation is the easiest and the best remedy for both. It brings down your stress level and tension. It acquaints you with yourself and you are able to figure out things easily. You can think more objectively. It has such great effects that you are able to focus on the solutions of the problem instead of the problem itself. It has many other nameable benefits like:
- Improves breathing
- Lessens feel of pain
- Helps you reflect better
- Physical relaxation
- Lowers blood pressure
With just 10 to 20 minutes of meditation we can attain all these benefits. I am sure you are ready to spare some time in your day to do meditation after reading this one….!
